Zinc 96.1 now on air

Zinc 96.1 is now on air in Queensland. After many months of planning and development Heat Fm has changed its name and format to become Zinc, “the newest radio station on the coast”.

Managing Director Rob Gamble has told radioinfo: “When we purchased 96.1 last July we promised the coast a great local radio station
for people over 40. We have taken that time to put together an all star line-up, both on air and off air, and an all star music format – the likes of which the coast has not heard before.”

Zinc is licenced to serve the Gympie ACMA licence area, but has been spreading its re-launch promotional information more widely since snaring Jamie Dunn to front its breakfast team, causing some consternation to rival stations in adjoining licence areas.

Jamie Dunn says Zinc will be “local, relevant, and it will be out there and it definitely won’t be boring.” He posed for photos with the broadcast team in the new studios this week (pictured above).

“The team and I are really excited about the show we have put together – it will be fun to wake up to and the music is just awesome. Believe me – the coast is in for a shock. We are ready to go!”

The response from the coast community in the past few months has been “nothing short of amazing,” according to General Manager Mark Spurgin.

Jamie Dunn is teamed with Jo Beth Taylor, Ian Calder and Johjo Switzer in the Morning Zoo, with other presenters across the day including Alan Doblo, Matt Walsh and Courtney Janette Burns.

Gamble says Noosa will continue to be the home base for Zinc 96.1, with plans to move the station into brand new offices and studio well underway, ensuring a 10-year commitment to the area.
