US digital satellite radio provider, XM Satellite Radio, has retrenched 80 staff in a move designed to conserve cash flow and renew investor confidence.

This reduces the workforce to about 300 people, and will result in the closure of two of the company’s radio channels. The new service has not yet made a profit.
