Walkley Award finalists announced

From scoops to scandals, world events and previously untold stories, the Walkley Award finalists for 2012 demonstrate the ongoing strength and diversity of journalism in Australia. Finalists in the general categories of the 57th annual Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism were announced at simultaneous events in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane last night.

 

Radio category finalists are:

Michael Vincent, ABC Local Radio, “Violence escalates in Tahrir Square”
Nance Haxton, ABC Radio, “Law Council of Australia calling for law reform”
Mark Willacy, ABC Radio, “Tsunami mothers”

RADIO FEATURE, DOCUMENTARY OR BROADCAST SPECIAL
Nance Haxton, PM, ABC Radio, “Intellectually disabled people fight for equal access to justice”
Claudia Taranto and Amanda Gearing, 360documentaries, ABC Radio National, “The day that changed Grantham”
Hagar Cohen, Background Briefing, ABC Radio National, “Online astroturfing”

There are more radio finalists in other categories, including online.

Winners will be announced on November 30 at the Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner at Parliament House in Canberra. The full list if finalists is below.
