Radio and tv reporter and voiceover announcer Tony Featherstone has passed away after a short illness.
His career included radio and television reporting, a long stint from the 1970s presenting a music program on 2CH, presentation on ABC 3LO Melbourne, producing tv shows such as Graham Kennedy Tonight, and his work as a well known voiceover artist.
At one time he was known as ‘the voice of the ABC.’
Tony finished up regular ABC VO work in 2011 and was the last in a line of full time announcers at ABC TV with careers stretching back to the beginning of television in Australia.
“Tony Featherstone wishing you a very good night,” was the way Tony signed off from his ABC TV evening voiceovers (audio below).
Good night Tony. RIP.
Thank you for letting us know about this sad news.
Tony Featherstone was also the Australian face at the end of the American religious church service, Hour Of Power, on Channel Ten each week.
I clearly remember the voice.
Joe
Another lost golden voice of radio and TV and young (23.11.1945 - 31.01.2019, 73). After the ABC (2011) one wonders why such a talent was not used by 2CH for its branding/station ID voiceover. The perfect voice for an easy listening station. Yes I know he was once a presenter on 2CH before joining the ABC in 1987.
Rest in peace.
