Roger Climpson awarded OAM in Australia Day Honours

As part of today’s Australia Day celebrations, FM103.2 Chairman, Roger Climpson was awarded The Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division. (O.A.M.), “for services to the media, particularly through the Christian Broadcasting Association and to the community through a range of service groups”.

A veteran of Australian media, Climpson began his career in radio theatre during the early 1950s before joining Channel 9 on it’s inception in 1956. He then became the voice and face of Channel 7 news for 20 years, receiving the ‘Sydney TV Newsreader” Award five times, and the Television Society of Australia’s “Best Newsreader Award” during this reign.

His other career highlights include hosting TV’s Top Rating Programs “This is Your Life” and “Australia’s Most Wanted”.

Climpson has also dedicated much of his time throughout his media career to charitable causes including World Vision Australia, Rotary, The Variety Club, The Bible Society, and is the Founding Patron of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Today’s award however is most notably for his service towards The Christian Broadcasting Association, incorporating Sydney Community Radio Station FM103.2 – The Heart of Sydney. Roger Climpson began presenting for the Association in the early 1960s and was appointed as a Director of the Association in 1983 before accepting his current role of Chairman in 1995.

FM103.2’s Board of Directors and Staff congratulated Climpson on “an honour well deserved.”
