This year marks the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death in a Paris car crash on August 31, 1997.

Sir Richard Branson, who is currently guest hosting his own show on smoothfm on Saturdays (4pm to 5pm), has spoken on-air about Princess Diana’s death and how he was involved with others in trying to make something positive from it, eventuating in the iconic version of the song Candle in the Wind by Elton John.

"...I rang Elton John said how about re-writing Candle in the Wind and I’ll try to get the Archbishop to accept it into the funeral service which he did and the new words for Candle in the Wind were written."
