Rhythm FM Nigeria off-air for SARS report

Nigerian radio station Rhythm 93.7 FM was taken off air by police after it falsely reported an outbreak of the SARS epidemic.

Last Friday the privately owned radio station reported that Chinese workers at a local restaurant in Port Harcourt had become infected with the disease.

After a complaint from the state health commissioner, a team of police moved in to shut down the station and arrest two employees. The station has now been allowed to resume broadcasting.
