This radio station has turned to locals to find new talent

Townsville’s Power 100 recently lost Jess Hardy, ex Big Brother, who decided to head back home to the Gold Coast after being on the Breakfast show with Vinnie Aston for twelve months.

So, to fill her shoes, Power 100 decided to open the position to the listeners of Townsville to see if they have what it takes to be the next big thing on Townsville Radio with Power 100’s Apprentice.

Nine finalists (ne dropped out at the last minute) were introduced at the start of this week and handed their first of many challenges they need to complete this week.

Challenges include promoting the Power 100 brand within the market for maximum appeal, looking for the biggest celebrity to be interviewed by Vinnie on air, raising the most funds for their chosen charity and the list goes on.

By Friday morning only five finalists will remain, the following week, will see each of them co-host with Vinnie from 7 until 9. Five will become 2 and then it’s over to the listeners to vote for who they think should join Vinnie weekdays from 5.30.

Jason Wolfgram, Content Director of Power 100 said “We could advertise the gig like we would any other job, but we thought let’s put it out there and try and find the next big thing on radio right here in Townsville! It’s not unusual for us to get listener feedback asking why we don’t employ local announcers. Simple answer, there is none! So we’re doing our bit for the economy and employing a local who’ll receive the training and skills necessary to live their dream of working at Power 100.”
