RA Launches on-line Tok Pisin service

Radio Australia has boosted its services to Tok Pisin speaking Papua New Guinea and Island listeners with the
launch of a new language website.

The new Tok Pisin website features the latest regional news and
information from Radio Australia’s online and radio reporters, and showcases the programs
and people of its Tok Pisin Language Service.

Tok Pisin or Pidgin is the
common language of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

“We’re particularly pleased with the way our listeners have contributed to
the ‘TOK PISIN’ site,” says Radio Australia’s Tok Pisin
Language Service EP, Pearson Vetuna.

“The website features many of their drawings and stories,
including the popular ‘tubuna stories’. These are the colourful, imaginative
folk tales regularly sent in by our listeners and recorded with music and
sound
effects to make very special radio programs.”

Another highlight of the new ‘TOK PISIN’ site is John Papik’s weekly sports wrap, which will appear each Monday.

Radio Australia’s Tok Pisin Language Service has been broadcasting to PNG
and beyond for nearly 30 years. The service delivers three hours of programs
each weekday and two hours each day on weekends – offering informative,
up-to-date and entertaining coverage of the issues concerning Pacific islanders, as well as
music and sports updates.

Individual Tok Pisin programs can also be heard on 15 partner stations,
strategically located throughout Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and the Solomon
Islands. These are part of an extensive network of nearly 300 partners,
currently delivering Radio Australia direct to local listeners throughout
the
Pacific, Asia and many other areas of the world.

The website contains the tubuna stories and weekly sports wraps, along with:

* the latest regional news and information updates

* program information, schedules and frequency guides

* transcripts of all your favourite radio programs

* audio files so you can tune in to Radio Australia online

* profiles of the people that make up the radio team
