November, Movember – it’s Ausmusic Month on triple j

As months go, November is okay. Some like to grow a moustache and call it Movember others, like triple j, cling to the traditional spelling and prefer to use its 30 days to celebrate Australian music.

Of course, there’s no reason why you can’t do both.

In any case, November is Ausmusic Month, the annual celebration of Australian music on triple j.

At the centre of Ausmusic Month are the J Awards, and this year marks their 10th Anniversary. Designed to celebrate the outstanding musical talent of homegrown artists, the J Awards include Australian Album of the Year, Australian Music Video of the Year, Unearthed Artist of the Year and for the first time Double J Artist of the Year.

The Australian Album of the Year is selected for being an incredible musical work of art; for its creativity, musicianship and its contribution to Australian music, with Flume, Gotye and Tame Impala all taking home the award in recent years. Now we’re proud to announce the first round of 2014 J Award Australian Album of the Year nominees, who are:

#1 Dads About Face

Ball Park Music Puddinghead

Chet Faker Built On Glass

The Preatures Blue Planet Eyes

Remi Raw X Infinity

Total Control Typical System

Further nominees for all four awards will be announced over the coming weeks, with the winners announced at the J Awards in Melbourne on Tues 18 Nov, broadcast live on triple j from 5pm.

Throughout Ausmusic Month triple j will  highlight incredible local talent through Australian music specials across the station, including specialist shows The Racket, Short.Fast.Loud, The Hip Hop Show, Roots N All, Friday Night Shuffle and The Sound Lab. You can even follow Dom Alessio on Home & Hosed as he walks around Brisbane and Melbourne with your fave bands talking about their home towns, including a tour around the 4122 with Violent Soho.

There’s also all-Aussie Live at the Wireless sets from The Amity Affliction, Remi, Kingswood and Angus & Julia Stone, 8pm every Monday in November. Plus Aussie’s covering their peers with Like A Version’s from Thelma Plum, Client Liaison and Kim Churchill, 7.30am every Friday. To kick it off Peking Duk invited some friends into the studio for an incredible reimagining of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’.

You also can download triple j Unearthed’s Ausmusic Month Mixtape, which showcases some of the very best music on triple j Unearthed right now.

Plus triple j Unearthed is once again teaming up with ARIA Week to showcase some of the best new Aussie talent, discovered through triple j Unearthed over the last few years. Head along to The Hi-Fi Sydney on Thurs 27 Nov, where you’ll be treated to live sets by Kingswood, Meg Mac and L-FRESH The LION, as well as DJ sets by triple j’s own KLP and Matt & Alex. Come along, it’s FREE!
