New station a Christmas gift for three Perth suburbs

Residents in the Perth suburbs of Hillarys, Mirrabooka and Karrinyup can now hear a new Christian,
family-friendly radio station just in time for Christmas.

The three suburbs are the first in Perth to receive Vision FM, a national radio station playing 100% Christian music and
teaching programs.

Vision FM came on air in Hillarys and Mirrabooka last Friday, December 19. Both stations are on FM 88.0. Vision
FM Karrinyup, at FM 87.6 came on air the following day. Another three Vision FM stations are due to come on air in Perth in
the New Year – Kwinana FM 87.6, Joondalup FM 87.6 and Maddington FM 88.0.

Community support is being sought to help
cover the $50,000 cost of setting up the six new stations.

Perth politician Steve Blizard, who supports the new stations, said: “It’s fantastic to hear that Vision FM is now on air
in Perth. Having listened to Vision FM in country WA, I can guarantee that you will be more than spiritually blessed with the
variety of programs they present. For those not able to tune in, you can still catch Vision FM on their new audio
streaming service (www.visionfm.com.au). ”

Vision FM started broadcasting on one frequency in Beaudesert, Queensland, on February 1, 1999. Nearly five years later,
it has 155 stations on air across Australia, including 35 in Western Australia. All receive 100% Christian music and
teaching programs via satellite from the Vision FM broadcast operations centre in
Underwood, Queensland. In Western Australia, there are another 72 licences to install Vision FM
transmitters.

Vision FM has a format of 65% music and 35% teaching programs, “appealing to a wide range of listeners seeking a
family friendly radio experience.”

The station encourages local interaction, with a freecall number (1800 880 876) for
competitions and the weekday talkback show, Talking Point (8am to 11am Monday to Friday WST). Perth residents are
also able to promote free or gold coin donation events on Vision FM’s national community notice board at no charge by emailing the details to [email protected].

Chief executive officer Ian Worby says setting up a local Vision FM station is an ideal solution for communities who do not
have the facilities to set up a community station yet desire an FM alternative with a positive message in their area. “By
accessing the Vision FM signal, the local area can have access to quality, professional radio 24 hours a day,”
Warby told radioinfo.

Vision FM is a non-profit operational network and encourages local people to get behind the ‘listener-supported’ station
format through donations.
