Nearly time to say farewell for Kate Dundas

As reported on radioinfo two days ago, ABC Director of Radio Kate Dundas is set to resign from the helm after five years with the broadcaster.

Kate Dundas has presided over a period at the ABC which saw an audience surge for the public broadcaster taking it’s Radio Division’s combined audience share from 21.2%  and combined reach of 3.815 million in 2008 to a combined share of 24.6%  and a combined reach of 4.654 million by the Survey 8 of last year.

Kate plans to leave in the early part of July this year to ensure that the ABC still has a clear path after the federal budget is released in a few weeks. She plans then to take a period of time off before taking up the Vincent Fairfax fellowship at the Centre for Ethical Leadership at the University of Melbourne and then exploring possible next career moves.

Highlights during her time at the ABC include:

  • Substantial growth from a 21.2% market share to a 24.6% share
  • A push into digital with the lauch of 11 radio stations across the country including the launch of the new Double J, building of 2 triple j apps and the ABC Radio app and a new online radio player
  • A new shared and comprehensive strategy for ABC radio as a wholeleading to 89% of staff believing that the strategic plan engaged more with audiences than the three years before
  • A reinvented training and development team which broadened the people trained by the ABC, as well as senior content makers giving master classes
  • More investment in emergency broadcasting services and an improvement in training and readiness to keep local up to date online through bushfires, floods, explosions and cyclones
  • The creation of new ABC radio events such as the Exhumed for local radio and triple j’s One Night Stand
  • An increase and broadening of the ABC audience by pushing into new areas and developing cross platform activity
