Libbi Gorr goes L for Leather over Footy Finals

In a special AFL Grand Final Week event 774 ABC Melbourne in collaboration with the Wheeler Centre and ABC TV Big Ideas will present ‘L for Leather’ – a fascinating panel discussion about men and leadership in the blokiest forum of them all: AFL Footy.

This event is created and presented by 774’s Libbi Gorr as a spin off from her regular Sunday show segment L for Leather, – a lateral look at football in society.

Libbi will introduce listeners to three generations of ‘tough man’ footy players:

Don Scott – Hawthorn premiership captain and ‘hard man’ of the 1960s & 70s

Simon Madden – Essendon legend, captain and premiership ruckman, 1980s & 90s

Luke Ball – Newly retired Collingwood midfielder, AFL Association President and former St Kilda captain, who has had no other job bar that of professional footballer since he completed High School (2000s).

In an evening of conversation about men and leadership, Libbi will tackle the tough questions: Who are men now? How do they lead? How have the changing roles of women affected men’s perceptions of themselves? What does the locker room in a footy club tell us about the men we live with today?

‘L for Leather’ goes in hard about the changing roles of men through conversations with footballers in the week when everyone is listening.

‘L for Leather’ is a free listener event to be recorded live at the Wheeler Centre on Tuesday 23 September at 6:15pm. Acclaimed Australian artist Dan Kelly will also being performing live on the night.

‘L for Leather’ will be broadcast on 774 ABC Melbourne’s Conversation Hour on Thursday 25 September at 11am, and on ABC TV’s Big Ideas: The Smartest Stuff on TV on Friday 26 September at 11am. It will then available on IVIEW.
