Kick start a sound career with SAE and Hi-Fi collaborative diploma

SAE and The Hi-Fi Group have entered into an exclusive agreement to deliver a unique, first-of-its-kind live sound diploma starting in September this year.

The Diploma of Sound Production (Live Sound) offers students practical and professional training in the exciting world of live sound production. Utilising SAE’s 35 years of global experience in delivering world-class audio production in conjunction with The Hi-Fi’s 16 years of delivering unforgettable live music experiences from artists all over the world, students studying the new diploma will attend weekly training at The Hi-Fi venues in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

This course offers students the opportunity to learn in a real life environment where some of the world’s biggest artists have performed. Students will have the chance to gain first-hand work experience at live gigs, offering maximum exposure and experience. The work placement will include bump-in, sound checks, observing live mixes and bump-out.

All practical live sound components of the diploma will be taught at Hi-Fi venues and give each student the opportunity to work with local and international acts.

SAE Australia Chief Executive Officer Jo Anthonysz said this is a rare educational and industry collaboration, and will enable SAE Australia to capture the ‘live’ market in audio education and training: “The students will gain real life practical experience and training in live venues by experienced SAE instructors and Hi-Fi professional sound engineers. In addition, diploma students are offered a Hi-Fi work placement in the second half of the diploma, which incorporates course work and assessment items. Success in the live music industry takes a combination of solid training and practical hands- on experience. No other program to date offers expert, practical tuition working with live lands at live venues. For students interested in the recording and mixing of live music, it offers the ultimate buzz.”

The diploma can be completed in a minimum of two trimesters (26 weeks) full-time and includes units in Recording and Mixing, Principles of Sound and Sound Production, Live Sound Production, Live Engineering Practice, Principles of Mixing, DAW Operation and Live Audio Systems.

The Hi-Fi Group is Australia’s only national live music venue operator with venues in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The Hi-Fi houses some 450 domestic and international artists per annum and is the market leader in Australia. Meanwhile, SAE campuses around Australia are holding open days in the coming months.
