Jason Morrison unsuccessful in Liberal pre-selection

Jason Morrison was unsuccessful in his bid for Liberal preselection in the seat of Ku-ring-gai.

In a pre-selection process that included several high profile local Liberal Party personalities, a local barrister, with long term party connections in the end was selected to contest the safe Liberal seat in suburban Sydney.

Alister Henskens beat Morrison in the pre-selection process yesterday.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the incumbent, former Premier Barry O’Farrell, failed to get his chosen successor for the seat, Carolyn Cameron, preselected in a tough contest.

Henskens, 51, is a prominent barrister who represented former energy minister and right wing factional leader Chris Hartcher during the recent Independent Commission Against Corruption hearings. Liberal party sources told the SMH that Henskens was backed by a cross-factional group at the preselection as “an able local bloke”.
