Jason Matthews goes out on a high

Gold Coast based Macquarie Southern Cross PD Jason Matthews was a happy man on his last day on the job with the company. Matthews announced his resignation last month, with his final day at work planned for today’s survey results day. He was not disappointed, his stations both increased and continued to dominate the market. Matthews speaks to radioinfo.

After today’s results he says he is very proud of his team: “Today’s results were amazing. To go out with those sorts of numbers is a dream come true. I would like to thank again all of my hardworking programming teams on both Sea FM and Gold FM – they all deserve the result. Today is your day.”

Matthews has been with the company for over 11 years and says he “has enjoyed every second minute of it.” He says he has had “amazing support” within Macquarie Southern Cross and mentioned a few of his colleagues and mentors who helped him develop his skills and career.

Rhys Holleran

“This guy’s passion for radio is second to none. As our CEO he is always encouraging and giving you the tools to succeed every day. Rhys has taught me so much about life, business and radio. This knowledge is priceless and I value Rhys’s support and mateship like you wouldn’t believe.”

Rod Brice

“The most successful Group Program Director in this country. Rod is a true gentlemen, a great leader and very genuine. I have worked so closely with Rod during my time here and to be lead by him has been wonderful. Thanks Rod – I’ve been very lucky to have you as a mentor and boss.”

Ian Cousins

“Ian’s the general sales manager at Sea and Gold. Another true gentlemen and a huge success. Working with sales at times can be testing however Ian and I never had an issue. His support of programming is a breath of fresh air.”

Greg Smith

“In my early days with the company I had the pleasure working with Greg as my consultant. How lucky was I!! He supported me early on and backed me as well. I never forget that mate.”

Brian Ford

“Anyone who has worked with Brian knows how good he is. Again to be able to work with gurus like Brian is an honour. Thanks Brian, you are a big part of our success and have been a great influence.”

My Family

“Can’t wait to spend more time with my wife Anita and my 2 beautiful twin girls Aria and Armani. They’ll probably kick me out of the house by mid December!!! I’m a very lucky person.”

On Air Colleagues

“Finally, to all of those I’ve had the pleasure to work with in any on air capacity. What you do each day is bloody hard at times. I admire what you do. To put yourself out there everyday takes some balls. Don’t give up. Keep having a crack, success will come.”

Jason Matthews joined the company when it was RG Capital, owned by Reg Grundy, starting as PD and breakfast announcer of 7LA in Launceston. He is is leaving radio altogether to work with his wife, Anita, who has built a very successful Pizza Capers franchise on the Gold Coast and has now opened a second store with plans for more.
