Gold-FM sends Qld water a message in a bottle – and they got it!

Gold FM’s Richard and Bridge are championing a cause for their listeners by sending an SOS in the form of a “message in a bottle”. They’ve launched a campaign for people to literally send a message in a bottle to the QLD Water Commission to ease water restrictions on the Gold Coast now that dams are overflowing. And it’s working.

In today’s show, Richard and Bridge received a surprised phone call from Mr John Bradley, CEO of the QLD Water Commission who whilst didn’t base the decision on water bottles, certainly got the message loud and clear! (Listen to the audio here)

Comments Mr Bradley to Richard and Bridge, “I hear you didn’t like me too much a couple of days ago when you were calling for bottles to be sent to us”.

According to Richard Fowler, “Gold Coast residents have become very water conscious as a whole and we don’t want to lose restrictions, but do want to use the water that’s potentially being wasted”.

Co-Host Bridge Daley says, “We’re not saying Brisbane can’t use our water, but until that system is in place isn’t it better that Gold Coasters can use the water that’s potentially being wasted so that we can wash down houses, gutters and cars etc before we head into the dry season”.

Richard asked if it was time to stop sending the water bottles to which Mr Bradley replied, “I hope you will after today’s news which is that from Saturday residents will be able to wash their cars, their boats and their houses, to water their gardens and top up their pools until further notice…that could run through to March.”

Richard and Bridge have been flooded (pun intended) with calls of support and will follow up the story in the following days throughout their breakfast show.
