Emma Ayres successor named for Classic FM

Julian Day will replace Emma Ayres as host of Classic Breakfast in 2015 on ABC Classic FM, beginning 19 January.

Julian has presented and produced programs on ABC Classic FM for over a decade, alongside appearances on BBC Radio 3, Triple J, Local Radio and RN. For many years Julian hosted the network’s new music programs, interviewing many of the world’s leading composers and sound artists including Max Richter, Peter Sculthorpe, Steve Reich and Laurie Anderson.

“After hosting Classic Breakfast for a number of summer seasons I’m delighted to join your mornings through the coming year. I can’t wait to share our great music mix, from Monteverdi to Richard Meale. It’s the perfect wake up call.” says Julian.

Screen Sounds, a program that began in 2014 will move to a new, regular timeslot of Saturday 5 – 7pm and will be hosted by Phillip Sametz.

A new show, Sunday Recital, also presented by Sametz, will be broadcast form 5 -7pm on Sunday. It will showcase the best in chamber music and recital performance from around Australia and sometimes beyond – selected for late afternoon weekend listening.

On Saturday nights in 2015, Graham Abbott, presenter of Keys To Music, will host Evenings. Saturday nights will continue to be the place for live or same-week broadcast of headline orchestral concerts from around Australia.

As in 2014, ABC Classic FM will continue to broadcast at least one Australian concert a day.

ABC Classic FM Manager, Richard Buckham says, “With these changes to our schedule we’re inviting listeners everywhere to spend more time with ABC Classic FM and discover more of the music we offer.  Julian Day will bring a fresh sound to Classic Breakfast.  With the new timeslot for Screen Sounds, we’re inviting more listeners to discover and enjoy the music of the movies and the small screen.  And Sunday Recital will be our chance to showcase the finest in chamber music events to our growing weekend audience.”
