Digital station launched to celebrate Canberra centenary

A new Canberra based radio station has commenced broadcasting on the new Digital Spectrum currently being trialed in the ACT.

Canberra 100 is the territory’s Centenary Station and has been launched by MIX 106.3 and 104.7, Canberra FM Radio.

The station has been designed to celebrate Canberra’s milestone year and along with commercial free music the station will highlight the events that are running to celebrate the centenary along with pieces highlighting the cities beginnings and moments in time since 1913.

Canberra 100 will also put the call out to unsigned local artists to submit their original music for the chance to have it played on the station in segments dedicated to up and coming musicians and bands.

Canberra FM Radio Content Director, Drew Chapman, explains the station’s formatting:

“On Canberra 100 we’re looking back at the last 100 years with a bunch of specially designed vignettes that focus on the big moments in Canberras’ history, every hour we have updates on some of the big events that are happening in Canberra this year for the centenary, and we are showcasing a stack of local/unsigned Canberra artists on the channel. We will also run intros featuring these bands to play into their songs.”

Canberra FM Radio General Manager, Eoghan O’Byrne, said, “Canberra 100 will be on-air until after the official Centenary weekend celebrations conclude on March 12th and new content will regularly added to the station reflecting what is happening in the region today along with what was happening in our growing community through the past 100 years.”
