Country music format for new Sydney frequency FM 95.3

It’s Showtime for the fourteen radio students of The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), with the 2004 radio class now on air with Show Radio 95.3.

This year’s Show Radio has an extra degree of interest for the radio industry because it is the last time the FM 95.3 frequency will be used for this purpose before it is sold for an obscene amount of money at the ABA auction on the last day of the ShowRadio broadcast, 15 April.

Show Radio runs for the two weeks of The Sydney Royal Easter Show, playing country music and providing up-to-date information about the Show, and is the AFTRS students’ first major practical of the eight month course, which will lead them to careers in the commercial radio industry.

Head Cowboy at AFTRS Radio Branch, Steve Ahern told radioinfo: “If the successful licence bidder wants to mount a country music format they’ll know just where to come after two weeks of this!”

“But seriously… It’s a great opportunity for this year’s radio students to fine-tune the skills they have been learning including announcing, producing and reporting in a live OB.”

Sarah (pictured) said: “This is a great experience for us… oh, and I love the Crunchie Showbag – you can see that by the leftover wrappers on the desk!”

Guy (pictured below) told radioinfo: “It’s only the first day, but if I eat another cheese on a stick I think I’ll be sick! Oh… Show Radio sounds great – as Slim Dusty says, the country has been here all the time… did I say that, I’ve heard too much country music already.”

Show Radio runs from today until 15th April and can be heard in Sydney on FM 95.3, or click the link below to listen on line.
