Brisbane Mayor’s holiday breakfast stint on 4BC

Brisbane Lord Mayor Jim Soorley will join 4BC for a week in December to host the station’s breakfast program.

The Lord Mayor will wake Brisbane up each morning from 5.30-9am from Monday December 16 to Friday December 20 with Chris Bombolas, who is filling in for regular duo John Miller and Ross Davie while they are on holidays.

Soorley will present the regular segments, interviews and calls, and will wake at 4am to be at 4BC’s city studios by 4.30am to help prepare the show.

He is already recognised as a radio performer, with his breakfast appearances on 4BC and his regular spot each week in the drive slot with Chris Adams. There are also whispers that he hosted his own radio show in Tasmania in the early 1980s.

The Lord Mayor said he is looking forward to the opportunity of presenting breakfast radio and engaging in discussion with Brisbane residents.

“When I participate in talkback sessions throughout the year it gives people the chance to talk to me directly about issues facing them or suggestions they have for the city,” he said. “These sessions are very constructive and I enjoy the opportunity radio provides to discuss issues and encourage debate.”

The Lord Mayor will not be paid for his appearance. Instead, Talk 1116 Brisbane’s 4BC will make a generous donation to The Lord Mayor’s Community Trust, which raises money and goods for Brisbane shelters and charities.

General Manager David McDonald said he is very pleased to have the Lord Mayor on board. “We strive to always provide a quality line-up over the Christmas period, and this year is no different… Jim will now know what it’s like to be on the other side of the mic, and Brisbane will have its chance to not only hear his thoughts on issues that matter, but phone in and interact too.”
