Big last week planned for Hamish and Andy: Audio

As Hamish and Andy prepare to go from five days per week to one, “their last week on air will be one of the biggest things they have ever done,” according to producer Sam Cavanagh, who spoke to radioinfo after receiving his ACRA. Their one day a week show next year will be heard on Fridays.

A replacement show has not yet been locked, but there are some “exciting ideas” currently being thrown around Cavanagh says. He will remain at Austereo in a senior network production role next year.

In his award acceptance speech for radioinfo, Sam Cavanagh thanked the program team and talked more widely about plans for Hamish and Andy. Listen here.

Group PD Dave Cameron, who won the Best PD ACRA, told radioinfo Hamish and Andy are still doing 20% of the drive shift next year, and he is looking forward to finding and developing a replacement show for the other 4 days.

“We’ve built shows before, we built Hamish and Andy 5 years ago and we will build another new show… we’re not far away from announcing that. The Today network brands are incredibly strong, built on great breakfast shows, Hamish and Andy are the cream on top of that.

“The end of the year will not be a farewell tour for Hamish and Andy as that would suggest they’re leaving, and they’re not, but in the last couple of weeks they want to get around and thank their listeners.”

Dave Cameron thanked the whole Fox product team in his acceptance speech, and also talked more generally to Media Week’s James Manning and radioinfo’s Steve Ahern about the show’s future. Listen to Dave Cameron here.

In their own brief acceptance speech, Hamish and Andy told radioinfo’s Peter Saxon it will be harder to win an ACRA next year with just one show on air a week. “We’ll be happy just to be invited next year!”  Listen to their audio here.

radioinfo will bring you more ACRAs acceptance speeches over the next week.
