B105 announces new breakfast team

Gabby Millgate, the Australian comedic actress who delivered the iconic film line, “You’re terrible Muriel” in the movie ‘Muriel’s Wedding’, will star as one of four new voices on B105’s new breakfast show in the New Year

Millgate, one of Australia’s most in-demand character actresses, will team up with two of the city’s leading stand-up comedians in Mike van Acker and Stewart ‘Stav’ Davidson. Experienced presenter Ben Wasley will anchor the show, having previously anchored the Pete Helliar Show and Rove McManus’s show on Austereo.

In making the announcement, Austereo Brisbane general manager Richard Barker told radioinfo: “B105’s new breakfast show is dynamic, light-hearted, it’s local and it’s relatable – the four people who will entertain Brisbane every morning are normal and very, very funny. For example in Gabby Millgate we have incredible comedic talent, but we have also hired Bridget Jones!”

B105 program director Rex Morris, the man charged with uncovering the new breakfast team, said the mix of personalities and voices were a result of four months of searching and on-air trialling.

“We have been scouting new talent Australia-wide since September, aided by organisations like The Sit Down Comedy Club, and trialling lots of different combinations of talent. After just two trial shows with Gabby, Mike and Stav, we knew we had it.”

For four years Gabby starred in, and wrote for, the Logie award-winning Full Frontal and Totally Full Frontal and most recently she has caught the attention of American director Brett Leonard (Lawn Mowerman, Virtuosity) who cast her as the female lead in his thriller FEED which premiered in London in November. Importantly, she can play the guitar and cartwheel.

Brisbane born and based award-winning comedian, Mike van Acker has headlined every major comedy venue in Australia. He was the first new-wave comedian to emerge from the fledgling Brisbane comedy circuit when it started in 1991 and on January 3, he will realise a New Year’s Resolution he made in 2002 – to work in breakfast radio.

Stewart ‘Stav’ Davidson moved to Australia from Scotland when he was just three weeks old. After making the national finals of Triple J’s Raw Comedy Competition in 2000, and winning the Bacardi Breezer New Comic of the Year competition in 2002, Stav was invited to perform on The Comedy Channel’s “Hahn Ice Headliners”.

Ben Wasley is famous for producing some of the country’s biggest radio shows in Saturday Morning Rove, Rove Live Radio and the Pete Helliar Show.

Born and raised in Adelaide, Ben is the product of a butcher (his father) and a massage therapist (his mother) and grew up around a spiritual and loving, aromatherapy-saturated environment with meat carcasses and sausage meat. And while he was born south of the border, he sees this gig as a return, after working on the Gold Coast earlier in his career.

B105’s new breakfast team go to work on January 3rd.
