2UE’s Angela Catterns is the latest casualty to lose her job following the Fairfax Macquarie merger.
The afternoon presenter has taken to Twitter confirming she’s been a “casualty of the merger” and is saddened she didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to her listeners.
For now Stuart Bocking will pull a five hour shift to fill the vacated afternoon timeslot.
In a statement from Fairfax Chief Operating Officer, Adam Lang said, “As we continue the business integration between Fairfax Radio Network and Macquarie Radio Network, there will staff changes at 2UE in Sydney that are underway and will conclude today. As part of those changes, 2UE Afternoons presenter Angela Catterns will leave the station today. Angela has been a fantastic asset and a true professional and I would like to acknowledge her dedication to our station”.
“There will be a reduction of approximately 30 roles across both Fairfax Radio Network and Macquarie Radio Network businesses in Sydney, with the aim of redeploying some staff within the network”.
Catterns went on to tweet she felt “relieved”.
What a mess 2UE seems to be in. What happened to the goals at the beginning of the year which promised "big things" for listeners? This is a good example of listeners being taken for granted and radio announcers and managers not working hard enough and not doing much research
( unlike 2GB radio announcers). Also the leftie and anti-conservative views which did little to solve problems in society of many announcers did not help much. 2UE announcers and managers rarely answer emails from listeners ( deleted them?) and this is a sure way to lose listeners. Alan Jones answers all emails from listeners. One 2UE announcer the other day found it strange that a listener was complaining that bank hours are not customer friendly and in an insensitive way criticized the listener for not having internet banking! The station needs a total re-focus on valuing each listener and a deeper understanding that without listeners, there is no radio station. If I was in charge I would get behind Clive Robertson and Mike Jeffreys as these announcers and their skill will save this station. Too many announcers are boring and just read stuff - we don't need ex-newsreaders as radio announcers.
Personally I think the changes are great. I like all the presenters and was never that keen on Angela, in fact I wouldn't listen to her.
