ACRA winners announced

The winners of this year’s ACRAs have been announced and the full list is below.

The awards show was packed with performances from Jimmy Barnes and his daughter Mahalia, Thirsty Merc, Paul Mac and winners of the na2r competition, rap duo FK. Host Paul Murray combined with Dame Edna to generate lots of laughs and some Gladioli waving.

The 25th anniversary year of FM in Australia was an important theme of the awards night with FM radio pioneer Rod Muir being inducted into the Hall of Fame and Jimmy Barnes recalling that the song he performed, Khe San, “was banned by your fuckin’ FM stations when it first came out 25 years ago!”

Recent Media Watch star 5AA’s Bob Francis was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for his long career in radio which spans nearly 50 years.

Organised by Commercial Radio Australia, on behalf of the radio industry, the Awards include 29 categories, which cover all areas of radio broadcasting including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment.

The 2005 ACRAs enjoy the support of Arbitron, Nielsen Media Research, Australian Retirement Fund, RCS Sound Software, Comsyst and The Music Network.
