3WBC will make a bigger noise with new Tx facilities

Melbourne community radio listeners who may not have been able to pick up Burwood-based radio station 3WBC in the past, now have no excuse for not listening, as the station is about to improve its transmission.

The station, which broadcasts to the Whitehorse and Boroondara communities on 94.1FM, has recently signed a deal which will see new transmission facilities
installed on the water tower on the corner of Elgar and Canterbury Roads in Surrey Hills.

Station President, Colin Rochford, is excited by the prospect, but admits there
are many challenges ahead for the station as he told radioinfo:

“Of course an expanding organisation has increased responsibilities and we are approaching these with enthusiasm tempered with caution.”

The water tower location was chosen over a number of possible sites due to its
360-degree panoramic views of the inner east of Melbourne, and the height of the tower.

Rochford hopes the planned increase in coverage will create a station that locals turn to for information.

“We plan to become the first choice of local organisations and businesses when they need to inform, impress, invite, educate, train, or sell to people in the greater Whitehorse and Boroondara areas.

“It’s a big task, but all the volunteers at 3WBC believe we are up to it. Together we are all working hard to become the biggest and best community radio station in Victoria.”

3WBC has been broadcasting permanently since September 2001, but has struggled at times to be heard due to its low power output.

The new transmission location will allow the station to be picked up in its entire listening area. Work on the new transmission facilities is expected to be completed by the end of March
