WorldDAB turns its attention to voice control in the car

The world body behind DAB+, WorldDAB, continues to plan the future of the in-car user experience for digital radio and is now turning its focus to the DAB+ user experience of voice control and hybrid radio.

The WorldDAB Automotive Working Group will consult with vehicle manufacturers and broadcasters in 2021 to help develop DAB+ guidelines for using voice control as part of hybrid radio in the car.

This work will take place in the first quarter of 2021, with the new Guidelines being published in March 2021.

TuneIn and Apple collaborate to introduce Siri voice control on Apple devices

TuneIn has teamed up with Apple to offer listeners access to TuneIn’s more than 100,000 global radio stations on all Siri-enabled devices and to 50 million Apple Music subscribers.

This collaboration comes follows Apple’s release of iOS13, which introduces a new radio experience to the world's 1.4 billion Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, CarPlay and HomePod.

Selling the digital elements of your audio gives you more options to offer advertisers, and improves radio's marketing proposition according to Frank Bacher from the German advertising bureau RMS.

Speaking at Radio Days Europe, Bacher listed the virtues of using the digital environment to give radio more reasons for advertisers to buy radio.

Unlike banner ads on websites and other advertising sold programmatically on the internet, radio's content is much more accountable.
