Reg Grundy and two others awarded Order of Australia

Australian radio and tv icon Reg Grundy has been awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday honours List.

Other people connected with the Radio Industry were Richard Lane, one of the founders of the Australian Writers’ Guild, was the author of “The Golden Age of Australian Radio Drama – 1923 -1960.

Also awarded was Margaret Christensen, who, if we’re not mistaken, played Lois Lane to Leonard Teale’s Superman and played Jessie Dutton in “Life With Dexter”.

Grundy began his career in radio, then moved on to develop and host tv game shows. He was the majority shareholder in the RG Capital Radio network, which was recently sold to Macquarie Bank.

Grundy’s award citation reads:

For service to the entertainment and television industry as the creator and producer of television programs depicting national cultural identity, to the promotion of Australia internationally, and to the community through philanthropic contributions to a range of organisations.

Reg Grundy was born in Sydney in 1923. In his early media career, he worked as a sports commentator and a salesman with Sydney radio station, 2CH and also at 2SM. He became host of a radio quiz show in 1957, which he subsequently took to television in 1959.

He founded Reg Grundy Enterprises, which produced high rating tv quiz shows and drama serials. In 1978, he opened his first overseas office in Los Angeles and, the following year, Grundy relocated to Bermuda. In 1982, he sold his television company to Pearson Television and bought the RG Capital network through his private investment company.

Reg Grundy is in the BRW Rich List with an estimated wealth of $635 million.
