If taken out of context, this statement by the Director of the BBC World Service Group at the Asia Media Summit in Korea, could seem like heresy.
In context however, it explains the BBC’s evolution of news coverage in the face of the challenge of social media.

End of an era for 2UE News

As Robert Spicer reported in the last news item of 2UE's 6pm news, "it is the end of an era for 2UE News."

The 2UE and 2GB newsrooms have merged and will now operate from 2GB's Pyrmont studios.

The first 2UE bulletin from those studios was heard at 7pm tonight.

The day there was no news on BBC Radio

On the 18th April 1930 the BBC announced that there was no news worth broadcasting... so they played music instead in the radio news bulletin slot.

This 90 second flashback from the BBC remembers the day when there was no news and discusses why. It is from the BBC archival series celebrating that British national broadcaster's 90th birthday.

Deborah Clay is Sydney News Director at Southern Cross Austereo’s 2Day FM and Triple M. At the Australian Commercial Radio Awards, she received the prestigious Brian White Memorial Award, which recognises sustained achievement and effort across news, current affairs, entertainment and sport reporting.

radioinfo spoke to Deborah about her award.
