Financial support brings Joy a professional breakfast show

Australia’s LGBTIQA+ community-run media organisation JOY 94.9 has received one of the most significant financial support amounts provided to community media by individuals, to fund a new JOY Breakfast Show.

The station is delighted to have received philanthropic support from patrons Geoffrey Smith and Gary Singer, to enable it to engage two professional breakfast presenters to host a new JOY breakfast show. 

New CEO for Joy

Ange Barry has been appointed the new CEO of JOY 94.9.

She brings “a breadth of executive leadership experience in both corporate roles and more recently in the broadcasting and not-for-profit sectors.”

Ms Barry has strong skills in a number of areas important to JOY’s future, including growth strategy design, development and implementation, income generation and planning. 

Melbourne LGBTI station enjoys audience increase

Australia’s only LGBTI+ radio station, JOY Melbourne has posted its third consecutive audience increase, with growth of 19% taking its monthly listenership to 470,000, according to the latest McNair national listener survey.

SAVE JOY Committee responds to Board, seeks to 'correct a few misconceptions'

Following allegations of bullying and low morale at Australia's premier LGBTIQ radio station, JOY 94.9, the board responded with an email refuting all allegations, and said its members database has been "stolen", and used to circulate claims of bullying and mismanagement by station managers and board members.

JOY and SBS Radio join forces for Sydney Mardi Gras parade coverage

LGBTI community radio station JOY is joining forces with SBS Radio for a Mardi Gras weekend takeover, including a live broadcast of the 40th anniversary parade of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

LGBTI station reacts to bomb threat with radiothon

This year JOY 94.9 has faced "massive backlash within the community simply for existing".    

It was in September last year received a bomb threat, forcing them to evacuate the building, although JOY remained on-air.
