Grandstand Summer of Cricket now on ABC SPORT

From this week the ABC is rebranding its sports coverage under the ABC SPORT banner which sees a renaming of its digital ABC Grandstand station and ABC Grandstand social media accounts to ABC SPORT.

 

The ‘voice of cricket’,  Jim Maxwell, will once again lead this summer’s ABC cricket coverage starting with the Australia vs India One Day Internationals on 27 November.

Crocmedia to broadcast all Australian Test and Big Bash matches

Crocmedia will broadcast all Australian Test matches and Big Bash games this summer, with SEN’s Gerard Whateley to head the commentary line-up.

Test matche coverage will be live on 1116 SEN in Melbourne and 1629 SEN SA in Adelaide, with ball-by-ball coverage also streamed live on SEN’s digital platforms.

4BC’s Summer of Cricket launches this week with the first ball thrown in Brisbane on Thursday November 5.

The only commercial radio station in Australia to broadcast all games across the season, providing full live coverage.

The Coverage will include, Australia Vs New Zealand Tests, Australia Vs West Indies Tests, One Day International Series, Brisbane Heat Fixtures and grand final and the Big Bash League

Steve Smith wins ABC's McGilvray Medal

Steve Smith is the winner of the McGilvray Medal for ABC Grandstand’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2014.

Smith narrowly pipped David Warner and Mitchell Johnson in the votes cast by the ABC Radio Grandstand commentary team including Jim Maxwell, Drew Morphett and Quentin Hull.

In the calendar year Smith scored 1,146 runs at an average of 81.85 including five centuries. He also took five wickets, several outstanding catches and captained the team in two Tests taking over from the injured Michael Clarke.

Drinks break for Agencies thanks to Fairfax Radio's cricket legends

Fairfax Radio’s team of cricket commentary legends Ian Chappell, Dean Jones, Greg Matthews, Glenn McGrath and Tim Lane have been doing the rounds of media agencies as the network pitches this year's commercial radio cricket coverage to advertisers.

The team has already visited OMD (pictured) and are continuing the roadshow to a number of other media agencies to discuss the upcoming season.

The Aussie cricket team will play visitors including India, England and South Africa in Australia this season.

Kerry O'Keefe calls stumps on ABC commentary

As the last wickets of the Ashes series fell this afternoon, Kerry O’Keefe signed off from the ABC’s cricket commentary team after more than a decade.
 
Speaking during his lunchtime roast, O’Keefe told Jim Maxwell:
 
“These 13 years have changed my life. I harangued the ABC for 2 decades to give me a chance and I’m so glad they did… Now it is the time to go. I'm comfortable with my decision.”
 

Fairfax Radio Network to launch major cricket advertising campaign

Fairfax Radio Network will launch a major advertising campaign to support its summer cricket coverage this week, targeting the nation’s legion of cricket fans.

The campaign, developed by Whybin\TBWA Sydney, will feature a heavyweight schedule across newspapers, online, mobile, magazines and social media and will run until the end of the KFC Big Bash League season in February 2014.

The ads will highlight Fairfax Radio Network’s stations carrying the cricket coverage including Sydney’s 2UE, Melbourne’s 3AW, Brisbane’s 4BC and Perth’s 6PR.
