Wilko & Courts’ new noughties nostalgia podcast: Y2 Hey Day

Wilko & Courts from the drive shift on Mix 106.3 in Canberra, like any radio duo around the country, spend the ad breaks talking about ideas for a side-piece-podcast.

They said they were wanted to do something “…that would let us talk about a bunch of stuff too inappropriate for our actual radio show.

Or at the very least a bunch of niche topics that Content Directors would scratch their heads at.”

Coming up with the podcast idea was easy, but finding the motivation and time to record it was the hard part.

Enter: pandemic.

Wilko & Courts said, “What better time to start a podcast than when you have microphones set up at home and you can bang out an episode while the baby naps and the tradies work around you?

“So what’s it all about? Nostalgia! But specifically noughties nostalgia.

“Being podcast listeners ourselves, and having grown up in the confusing decade that was 2000-2010, we felt the gap for a podcast for people our age who just wanna talk about how good (and bad) it all was.

“It’s chunky blonde highlights with spaghetti straps. It’s The OC and One Tree Hill marathons. It’s Avril Lavigne conspiracy theories and “the sound of the 2000s.”

With a new episode out every Tuesday, they have already covered off on Brokeback Mountain, early fashions and Rory Gilmores underlying need to end up with someone like her dad.
