Who’ll be Australian Of The Year ? We have the list of finalists

Tuesday 21 January, 2003

The announcement of The Australian of the Year is always surrounded by controversy. One of the main complaints from listeners is that the name seems to have been picked out of the blue and nobody has any idea of who else had been considered.

This year, radioinfo gives you an exclusive insight into all the finalists in all four categories in our SHOWPREP section. It could be someone from your state or territory. Your listeners will be keen to know what chance their local nominees have of winning the big one.

The finalists include some high profile individuals such as Lleyton Hewitt representing S.A. for Young Australian of the Year and Jimmy Little for NSW as Senior Australian of the Year. Challenging him, from Tassie, is veteran Christian radio man, Mal Garvin.

Australian of the Year is wide open with doctors, scientists and humanitarians all worthy candidates. And the new category of Local Hero is loaded with unselfish folk who work tirelessly in our local communities.
