Wheatley out of prison and into Radio

Former Melbourne FM station owner, Glenn Wheatley, has been released from prison into the waiting arms of his wife Gaynor who told news.com reporters, “He’s going to get back to work and spend a lot of time redeeming himself. He’s started a radio project … “

As reported in radioinfo in July last year, Wheatley was planning a return to radio before his incarceration. Wheatley had been a founding director of Melbourne’s EON-FM in the 80’s until he sold to Rod Muir and the station took on the Triple M mantle.

According to our source (who prefered to remain anonymous), “Wheatley has been busy recruiting on-air and programming talent to staff a new radio station. He has secured a number of cashed-up investors for the venture with state of the art studios already built for the purpose.”

It is unclear what form the station will take, but since new terrestrial licenses are unavailable, it is likely to involve delivery via internet or mobile phone.

Perhaps the answer to the secret project will be revealed when a countdown timer on this website hits zero.

Wheatley, who was sentenced to 15 months for tax evasion has spent 10 months in gaol and will be forced to serve a further five months of home detention. However that should have little effect on his ability to oversee a radio operation.
