ABC Brisbane staff are mourning the sudden death of radio producer and sports commentator Tom Greenard.
Tom died unexpectedly on Tuesday night of natural causes, with his ABC Queensland Evenings show host Kelly Higgins-Devine writing on Facebook:
“He was incredibly funny, fiercely loyal, smart as a whip, magnificently generous with his time and energy for his friends, adored playing his drums, wore a Pork Pie hat with aplomb, and loved his two boys Joel and Leon with every fibre of his being,”
“Among many other things, I will miss his limericks, his passion for football (the round ball sort) especially Leeds, and his obsession with risotto.”
Affectionately called ‘Tom the Pom’, he often worked as commentator and sideline reporter for ABC Grandstand at Brisbane’s A-league soccer matches.
Extremely shocked & upset to learn of the passing of Tom Greenard. I knew him as a passionate football fan, a devoted father & a talented radio producer. When I was still in Brisbane, at @abcbrisbane 612 Tom was a mentor of mine in radio & we did some A-League commentary together
