Vale Steve Andrews, dead at just 38

Queensland radio announcer Steve Andrews was knocked over and killed by a learner driver in a tragic accident last night on the Sunshine Coast. Andrews had worked for a variety of stations including Brisbane’s B105, 4BC and 4BH as well as Bundaberg’s 4BU. He was also well known as the regular voice-over man at QTQ-9 Brisbane and a sought after voice for ads and character voices. Andrews was 38 and single.

4BH 882 Program Director, Geoff Harrison, told radioinfo that his family is very much saddened by the loss of Steve and paid the following tribute…

“I first met Steve in community radio when we we’re at the very beginnings of our respective careers. Steve in fact was working for the taxation department at the time and just dabbling in radio. He was yet to develop his great talent for character voices not to mention his smooth rich deep voice that we heard through his long period as the voice of B105 (plus an endless number of metro and regional stations) and Channel 9 Qld.

“The other great talent he had was his communication skills and natural affection for the older members of the community. This was on display when he did shifts on 4BC, 4BH and 4BU. He loved nothing but a ‘good natter with the oldies’ as he would say, on or off the air.

Away from the work he had the qualities of a good friend…Interested in not only you, but your family. He was genuinely interested to know how you were travelling. And it’s today that I’m reminded the conversations were far too infrequent”.
