Vale Stephen ‘Baamba’ Albert

Kimberley legend Stephen ‘Baamba’ Albert passed away in his hospital bed in Perth on Wednesday.
 
While he was best known for his appearance in the original stage production of Bran Nue Dae, and for his appearances in the late 90s on the Mary G Show, Baamba was also one of the founders of the Broome Aboriginal Media Association which led to the development of Goolarri Media Enterprises,  that produces Kimberley-based content for radio, film and television.
 
In a statement from Goolarri Media released on behalf of the family, his son, Michael Albert, says, “his father has had a colourful life, which has enriched those around him”.
 
Baamba leaves behind his daughter Stephanie, sons Michael and Joseph, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, three sisters and two brothers.
