Sad news overnight with the loss of two great media personalities who both got their start in radio.

Reg Grundy passed away yesterday aged 92.

Also over the weekend, former Wheels magazine editor and motoring expert and author Bill Tuckey passed away aged 80. Although Tuckey is well known as motoring journalist, he began his career as a broadcaster at 3DB in Melbourne in the early 1980s.

Reg Grundy began his career in radio broadcasting working as a sports journalist at 2SM in 1947. In 1957 he developed a radio game show called Wheel of Fortune which Grundy hosted on Sydney’s 2CH. In 1959, Grundy took the Wheel of Fortune concept to channel 9 and soon after began his very own Television production company which introduced Australian audiences to game shows like Family Feud, Blankety Blanks and The Price is Right as well as dramas like Neighbours and Sons and Daughters.

In 1995, Reg Grundy formed RG Capital, a radio company which acquired roughly 35 radio stations over 5 years including NXFM in Newcastle, 3SR in Shepparton, Sea FM in the Gold Coast, Cains and Mackay.

In 2004, Grundy sold his 56.3% stake in RG Capital Radio to Macquarie Bank. At the time, radioinfo spoke to RG Capital’s CEO Rhys Holleran about the acquisition, he said “I think Reg has made a magnificent contribution to the industry over a period of 60 years or more. I guess it’s simply time, nothing wrong with that.”

In 2008, Grundy was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday honours List.
