Vale Libby Sanders 2NC 1233: Funeral details

Former 2NC Newcastle morning presenter Libby Sanders has passed away.

Libby, a local Newcastle personality, presented the daily current affairs morning show the ABC’s Newcastle station in the 1980s and 90s.

She had been fighting cancer for almost 20 years, and passed away last week.

Libby’s memorial service will be held at Newcastle’s Christ Church Cathedral tomorrow (Friday 24 March) at 2:30.

The cathedral is just across the road from the old ABC Studios in Newcomen Street Newcastle.

She leaves behind husband Mark and two children.

Friend and colleague David Sayers has paid tribute to Libby:

Libby was a trail blazer who took on the male dominated ABC and Newcastle market place and made it her own.

The ’80 decade saw much change in Newcastle and Libby enthusiastically and carefully took her audience on that journey, resulting in a legion of loyal followers who embraced
her “from the heart” style.

2NC was an innovator in ABC terms and Libby was an important part of that era.

The station embarked on an aggressive marketing campaign designed to raise it’s profile and take on commercial radio head on!

Weekly outside broadcasts, movie premier’s, on air competition’s, a garden show that saw 15,000 people attend………it was golden age for 2NC.

Libby embraced all this activity, she loved contact with her audience and handled the pressure with her customary smooth professionalism.

Libby Sanders was 66 and is survived by her husband Mark and children Margot and Josh.
