Former ABC presenter, John Reid, has passed away after succumbing to frontotemporal dementia and motor neurone disease.
John began his career at 3KZ in Melbourne, before moving to 3GL Geelong, AMV Channel 4 Albury, GMV6 Shepparton, SES-8 Mt Gambier, 3HA Hamilton, BTV6 Ballarat as well as stations in New Zealand.
At ABC 774 John Reid’s Poets Corner became a listener favourite on Saturday mornings
John worked on ABC television reading the 7pm news, staying with the ABC on and off until 2009.
His daughter Shannon Reid, told the Geelong Advertiser that her father “…lived life to the full through adventures and experience. Whatever he wanted to have a go at, he did: broadcasting, farming, family, writing and publishing books, vigneron, travelling … he did it all and did it well. That was the perfectionist in him.”
John Reid is survived by his wife of 50 years, Val, and children Sean, Shannon, Benjamin and Marnie.
His funeral is at the Queenscliff Uniting Church at 1pm today.
