Dierdre was a regular presenter of A Question of Balance every Tuesday night on 2ser fm Sydney and on network stations via the community radio network.

The program began in 2005 on 2ser and was syndicated to community stations around the country since 2008.

For her work at 2ser, she was awarded a station award for Best Talk Show in 2014, and also received a CBAA Award in 2004 for fundraising work at Sydney community station 2RRR.

Diedre once described her approach to radio  as “water dripping on stone,” saying that scientists can help the community develop an appreciation of important issues. “If they talk in simple, enthusiastic language about things they really know, they can reach people.”

2SER is currently in its supporter drive and Dierdre was preparing a special show for the supporter drive this week, but sadly was not able to air it.

Outside of radio Diedre was a Senior Lecturer in the School of Medical and Molecular Sciences at UTS.

2ser Program Director Anthony Dockrill says the station is saddened by news of Dierdrie’s passing.

“It’s a very sad day today at 2ser. A Question of Balance was not only a muched loved program but also a unique voice on Australian radio. Deirdre not only made our Ecology into great radio she helped raise awareness about what was in danger of being lost every week. Deirdre was always a force for good and very much loved by the 2ser family.”

Her partner Paul McQueen will inform her friends and colleagues of funeral details when they are known.
