Queensland broadcaster Darren Madigan has passed away in Far North Queensland this afternoon, after a long illness.
Following a successful career as a rep for the movie industry, Darren turned his hand to broadcasting.
His passion and love for sport led to a successful sports program on Logan Radio 101FM, which later moved to the ABC on the Gold Coast.
ABC Coast Grandstand was a popular show fABC Gold Coast, becoming the number one rated program for the station.
Darren moved to Inverell for a stint at 2NZ as afternoon talk show host with the Super Radio Network, but moved back to the Gold Coast to head up a sport based program on 92.5 GOLD FM.
He then returned to his roots in North Queesland, but still managed to broadcast a show from his home at Atherton to 101FM Logan City.
More recently, Darren enjoyed presenting a regular segment on REBEL FM Breakfast with Ash and Jake.
Sports publicist Ian Hanson has commented on Darren’s passing:
“He was a special guy… It was a pleasure to know him and have the honour of working with him – he was the heart and soul of sport for the ABC on the Gold Coast and was such a loyal person. It was a pleasure to work with him and have some fun with him.”
