Vale Andrew Reimer

Former Heart 107.3 Hobart manager Andrew Reimer has passed away after a short illness.

He was responsible for founding Magic 107 (later rebranded to Heart 107.3 in the mid 1990s).

Paying tribute to his former boss, Heart breakfast announcer Dave Noonan said:

He was a breath of fresh air when he arrived at Triple T in the mid 90s directly from the US where he had taken unprofitable radio stations and made them successful.

He was a great boss and it was obvious he loved his family more than anything. He made Hobart his home and was passionate about Tasmania.  He will be missed by the media industry and the wider Tasmanian community.

Those of us who remember him at Triple T, Sea FM, Magic 107 and Heart 107.3 will remember Andrew as an inspiring leader and mentor.

Dave’s former on-air partner Kim Napier also remembers her former boss.

Andrew Reimer was a great support to me.

I was juggling breakfast news shifts with a baby and he allowed me to set up a porta-cot in the newsroom and bring Ollie along whenever I couldn’t find care.

It was in 2000 Todd Campbell left the Todd and Dave Show. I had been interacting with the boys during the news and Andrew picked up on the chemistry between Dave and I and asked me to fill Todd’s role.

At the time I had been offered the political reporter’s position with Southern Cross Television but decided to take the radio job instead as it was my son’s first year at school and a midday finish was perfect. Again, Andrew offered whatever support was needed.

Thanks to him, The Kim and Dave Show was born and I had the best 15 years of fun.

While Andrew was generous family man he had an incredible work ethic. I remember him asking me once how I was and I replied with “Can’t wait for the weekend” and he said without skipping a beat and gentle wink in his eye, “You know what I say to people who say that? Get another job.”

I’ve never said it to a boss since.
