Vale 4GG’s Bert Robertson

Queensland radio icon Bert ‘Birdbrain’ Robertson has passed away at age 89.

Born in Melbourne, Bert began his career as a technician/operator at 3KZ, later working at 2MW and 2UW in NSW.

Moving to Queensland in the 1950s, he presented mornings on 4BC and then moved to 4GG Gold Coast (now Gold FM) in the 70s. His unpredictable pranks, stunts and high profile OBs made him a household name in the region.

In his later years he continued to do voiceover work, notably as the voice of Super Amart, Sportsmans Paradise, and Errol Stewarts Warehouse.

Here is one of his appearances on a Channel 7 Gold Coast tv telethon from the 1970s and one of his tv Commercials.

A snapshot of 4GG’s history is chronicled here.
