The ultimate social experiment returns with vaginoplasty, inheritence and batteries

This week, KIIS 101.1 with Matt & Meshel have returned with their social experiment – Matt & Meshel’s Ten Grand Jury.

As you may recall, we have 6 jurors locked in a room (sequestered at nights at a Melbourne hotel with no internet or phones), and each morning they have one hour together where they must convince each other why they alone should win $10,000.

If they cannot decide by Friday morning, the money will go to a listener who dials in first.

In Round 1 of Ten Grand Jury – Matthew, the only juror lying about his reason for wanting the money, was voted by his peers to receive it. Some were devastated when they found out the truth – not that he needed money to rebuild his life after his home burnt down, but that he was planning a trip with his best mate, and planned to buy a caravan.

In Round 2 of Ten Grand Jury we saw Tanya, an incredibly polarising woman, who Meshel ultimately refused to speak with, who refused to vote for the one woman everyone else agreed should get it, because she was a lesbian and Tanya did not believe for that reason, she deserved the money. The cash went to a listener.

So who will walk away with the cash this time around? Who can, through loyalty, lies, trust and a sense of entitlement, ensure 5 strangers vote for them and not themselves? We’ve had a huge response from listeners to Ten Grand Jury, with live feeds on Facebook each morning and many dialling in with their take on our jury.

This week we have:

Lynda
 – Mother of 3, and 2 have disabilities who are legally blind and developmentally delayed. Lynda has an auto immune disease and wants the $10,000 to help at home, as her husband has just had a breakdown and she is losing her job next month, as it’s being moved offshore to Manilla.

Maria – Her mum passed away last year, and because she was an adopted child, her cousins have fought her for her Mother’s inheritance. Maria wants to fight for her inheritance back, for herself and her son.

Laura – Wants to pay her grandmother back, after she was given more than $5000 last year to pay for life saving weight loss surgery. Laura, a mother of one, was told she would die without it. She had a gastric sleeve done, removing 90% of her stomach, and has since lost nearly 40 kg.

Anthea – Lives outside of Melbourne off the grid with her three children. They are not connected to any town normalities, and catch their own rainwater and generate their own power using solar panels and a bank of batteries. Those batteries are expensive and have a life span, and she wants to purchase more.

James – Wants to give the money to his parents who have had a difficult journey lately with a stroke, cancer scares and kidney infections. James says they’ve given their lives to him and his four older sisters, and it’s time to help them out.

Maree –Wants to get vaginoplasty. She says she’s had a few kids, and wants “a vaginal spruce up” as Meshel terms it.

Wrapping up Day 2 of the jury this morning, the jurors remain undecided, but the story everyone is fascinated by is Maree. In one of the votes this morning, she received 3 votes, including one from herself. Maria received 2 and Laura received .
