Travis Winks has penned a book about how a family’s life was Shattered

Radio presenter and journalist, Travis Winks from Wave FM in Wollongong, has just released his book Shattered, the true story of how a loyal family self-destructed over 67 days.

Told through the eyes of a hurting brother and son, Travis follows three family members through a series of fateful decisions that resulted in unthinkable consequences.

Almost every family has a tumultuous chapter and Shattered is about the real impact mental illness and domestic violence can have on sufferers, and those who love them.

Travis says the inspiration for the book was a personal tragedy, “It took me six months to write. I clicked into gear following another family tragedy in July 2018. On that day I had the wind knocked out of my sails again, by that afternoon I had written the first chapter.

“I suppose the first words I wrote were like having a vent to my laptop and the venting continued. As time went on, writing became my cathartic release, it gave me the chance to grieve.

“It’s real, very real. The sad thing about this story is that it is all true. You couldn’t dream this stuff up. I put it all out there because writing was a mechanism to help me grieve and deal with my emotional heartache. What has happened to my family is so shocking some would say it’s unbelievable, unfortunately it’s not.”
