‘Tough Conversations’: Henry Rollins’ explores what makes Aussies tough

The new podcast series features interviews with Mick Fanning, Clover Moore & Adam Briggs.

Over ten days, US punk singer, actor and spoken-word performer Henry Rollins embarked on a podcasting road through towns from Shepparton and Castlemaine, through to Moree and Dubbo, and Toowoomba and Mt Isa talking to Australians about what toughness means to them.

The podcast series ‘Tough Conversations’ features revealing interviews with surfer Mick Fanning, Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney Clover Moore, and Indigenous comedian and rapper Adam Briggs.

Rollins described the  road trip as an opportunity to explore why ‘toughness’ is so ingrained in the Australian psyche.

“I’ve driven through parts of Australia that I’ve never been to before, like Moonie and Springdale, interviewing Australians from all walks of life and asking them what it means to be tough,” he said.

“None of them said ‘I’m tough’, they said ‘my mum is tough’, ‘women are tough’, ‘my friends are tough’ or ‘my community gave me the strength to do this.”

“I’ve had an amazing time here talking to Australians about the Australian id and I think people will dig what we’ve been putting across.”

The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Android, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts from.
