SYN FM youth team with Channel 31 Melbourne

Community Radio/TV simulcast seeks presenters and bands
Bryce Ives and Susan Reddrop are taking on the challenging roles of executive producers of a new music-clip show to simulcast 5 nights a week between 4-5pm on Melbourne community station SYN FM and Channel 31. And they are on the search for teams of hosts, nightly producers and local bands.

The show will feature music clips, music news, live bands, interviews and segments and will be hosted by young people under the age of 18.

The executive producers are looking for hosting teams of two – to host one night a week. Hosts will need “some music knowledge, awesome organization skills, terrific communication skills and the ability to handle pressure.”

The show is also looking for nightly producers (aged between 18-26) to coordinate the technical and production elements of the show. Producers will work very closely with the hosts to help produce each individual episode.

The producers also want live bands to film music clips for the show. The bands will be filmed at the Channel 31 studios and one live music clip will be showcased on each episode of the show.

It is “a bold step for the community broadcaster which is in its first year of full-time broadcasting,” sayd Bruce Ivers.

For Channel 31, it is about developing new technologies and creating bold ideas for the youth market.

Bryce Ives, 19, is aware of the pressure of hosting a live television show. For the past two years he has fronted shows such as Dawns Crack – for Channel 31 and was producing stories for ABC TV from the age of fourteen.

“Because I was producing my own media from the age of 14, I’m fully aware of the talents and capabilities of young people. Other shows and stations pretend to be youth-focussed, but I can’t name a television show fronted by 13 or 14 year olds. This show is going to be incredibly ground-breaking, and we are looking for the stars of tomorrow to host our show.”
