SWR Triple 9 to call Socceroos World Cup playoff

The local station has acquired broadcast rights to produce its own call of the game.

The Socceroos are heading into battle against Honduras in the second leg of the intercontinental playoff for a spot in the 2018 World Cup on Wednesday Night.

SWR Triple 9 (formerly SWRFM) has acquired the broadcast rights to produce a call of the game on Wednesday.

Head of SWR Sport Julian Daw said “opportunities like this just don’t happen, it still doesn’t feel real that we are actually getting the chance to call this game.”

Daw is the newly appointed head of sport at SWR (Triple 9) 99.9FM and brings five years professional sports broadcasting experience to the station. “SWR Sport is barely six weeks old and we are about to call the biggest football match in Australia this decade. We want to change people’s minds on what a local station can do and it’s a testament to the progressive nature of SWR Triple 9 to take a punt on something like this.”

In the lead up to the big game SWR Triple 9 will play Australian music all day with live coverage starting at 6.00pm. The call team features Julian Daw, Scott Jackson (Sky News/Fox Sports News) and Will Gotsis (Football NSW) taking you through every moment of this historic clash.

SWR Sport has also acquired rights to cover A-League/ W-League matches involving the Western Sydney Wanderers, the Sydney Blue Sox in the Australian Baseball League, and the Legends of League competition in Gosford this Saturday.
