Super Award for Super Radio 531

FM93.5/Radio 531AM won the Creative Services and Communications Category at Saturday Night’s 2018 Greater Port Macquarie Business Awards.

The stations are based in Port Macquarie but have been serving the NSW Mid North Coast Region since 2000,

It’s the first time any commercial radio station in this region has taken out a Business Award. Each Award is judged in three parts – an on-line Public Vote, the lengthy submission detailing the station’s achievements and a Mystery Shopper. The results are then considered by three anonymous judges with business experience.

The Station is more commonly known as Radio 531 which is part of the Super Radio Network and only has three staff members. Station Manager, News Director, Announcer and Production Guru John O’Callaghan is approaching 45 years in the Industry after starting his career as a 15 year old alongside his famous father the late Gary O’Callaghan at 2UE. The Sales and Marketing Manager Nik James who also fills-in on-air has been in radio for more than 25 years including over a decade at the local Triple M station (formerly 2MCFM). Plus Erin McCudden who is the Director of First Impressions and Sales Assistant.

Nik accepted the Award on behalf of the team and believes it was the station’s commitment in assisting numerous charity and not-for-profit organisations with ad campaigns and Interviews in addition to providing an MC for events at no charge that may have swayed the judges. Nik said, “It was the first time the Station had been nominated so we were just happy to be a Finalist. It’s an extremely competitive marketplace with a large number of media outlets so winning this award provides us with incredible exposure and can only assist us in terms of picking up listeners and advertising dollars. Winning the Award feels like David defeating Goliath. We’re overwhelmed by the community support.”
